JAKARTA – PT MCS Internasional (MCSI), a subsidiary of PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional (HUMI), is targeting significant performance growth through business expansion into the cruise segment starting in 2023.
With this business development, the Company hopes to manage up to 10,000 ship crew members, with a target turnover growth of 3x by 2027.
Regarding this expansion, MCSI Director Captain Johan Novitrian revealed that it has officially started this year through cooperation with a ship crew recruiter company from the United States (US), namely CTI Group.
“‘This collaboration proves CTI Group’s trust in MCSI to provide reliable crews to a number of its principals who are major world cruise ship players,”‘ Johan told the media on Monday, July 24, 2023.
Johan admitted that the development of crew management services for the cruise ship segment refers to the Baltic International Maritime Council (BIMCO) research report. According to the report, the cruise ship and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier segments have the highest level of crew demand in the world.
He also believes that this collaboration will be the first step for MCSI in expanding its business into the passenger ship segment, especially cruise ships. Moreover, both CTI Group and MCSI have more than 30 years of experience in the world of ship supply and crew management.
“‘With our long experience and strength in managing tanker crews, for now, we are still focused on placing the best crew members in the deck and engine room for CTI Group clients,”‘ Johan explained.
Through this collaboration, MCSI has also prepared itself to provide crew members in the hospitality section of cruise ships, with training support also provided by CTI Group. “‘In utilizing this momentum, we are also collaborating with several universities in the country to present hospitality training centers to support the needs of cruise ship crews,”‘ he added.
Affirming the Main Business Segment
In addition to the cruise business expansion, MCSI also emphasized its main business segment in cargo ship crew management, especially on LNG ships through a joint venture (JV) with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL).
MCSI itself has placed its best crews for 30 years on MOL’s ships. With the high demand for LNG ship crews, MOL decided to deepen its cooperation through a JV to be inaugurated in April 2024.
“‘MCSI currently manages around 450 crew members on MOL’s LNG vessels. The number is targeted to increase by 100% through this JV, and that is only for MOL,”‘ Johan added.
He further stated that the Company will also encourage the management of crew members in other segments such as tankers, dredgers, FSRUs, and tug & barge.
“‘With the increasingly open business potential and the growing need for crew members, we are optimistic that we can place around 10,000 of our crew members with a target of sustainable growth in turnover, and hopefully achieve 3x profit growth by 2027,”‘ Johan concluded.
