JAKARTA – PT MCS Internasional (MCSI), a subsidiary of PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional Tbk. (HUMI), is targeting significant performance growth through business expansion into the cruise segment starting in 2023. With this development, the Company aims to manage ship crews of up to 10,000 people, with a target turnover growth of 3x by 2027.
MCSI Director, Captain Johan Novitrian, revealed that this expansion has officially started through a cooperation with CTI Group, a ship crew recruiter company from the United States. “‘This collaboration proves CTI Group’s trust in MCSI to provide reliable crews for a number of its principals who are major world cruise ship players,”‘ Johan stated on Monday, July 24, 2023.
According to Johan, the expansion into cruise ship crew management refers to a Baltic International Maritime Council (BIMCO) research report, which states that the cruise ship and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier segments currently show the highest global demand for crew. “‘With more than 30 years of experience in ship supply and management, both CTI Group and MCSI are confident this collaboration will unlock greater growth potential,”‘ he added.
For the initial phase, MCSI will focus on placing its best crew members in the deck and engine room for CTI Group clients. Beyond that, the Company has prepared to provide crew members for the hospitality section of cruise ships, with training support also facilitated by CTI Group. “‘To strengthen this, we are also collaborating with several universities in Indonesia to establish hospitality training centers for cruise ship crews,”‘ Johan explained.
Affirming the Main Business Segment
Alongside its new expansion into the cruise segment, MCSI continues to reinforce its main business in LNG crew management through a joint venture (JV) with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL). “‘MCSI has placed its best crew on MOL’s ships for 30 years. With the growing demand for LNG crew, MOL agreed to establish a deeper cooperation through this JV, which will be inaugurated in April 2024,”‘ Johan said.
Currently, MCSI manages around 450 crew members on MOL’s LNG vessels. This number is targeted to increase by 100% through the joint venture, and this target applies solely to MOL’s fleet. Beyond LNG, MCSI also manages crews in other segments such as tankers, dredgers, FSRU, tugboats, and barges.
“‘With the business potential widening and crew demand increasing, we are optimistic about placing up to 10,000 crew members by 2027, accompanied by a 3x turnover growth and sustainable profitability,”‘ Johan concluded.
