Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is one of the energy commodities that can be used for various purposes. The energy raw material, which is known to be more environmentally friendly than coal, has now become a bone of contention for major countries in the world.
Launching ICIS LNG Edge data quoted by Reuters, Japan has become the largest LNG importing country for the past decades. LNG purchases made by Japan to exporting countries are usually used to produce electricity.
Meanwhile, in 2021, the number of LNG imports from Japan is recorded to be decreasing, which makes its position as the largest LNG importing country in the world now starting to be evicted by China, which now ranks first as the largest LNG importing country.
“‘Japan’s LNG imports decreased by 0.2% in 2021 to 74.73 million tons,”‘ quoted from Reuters, Thursday, August 25, 2022.
Meanwhile, China has recorded an increase in the amount of LNG it imports over the past few years. In 2021, China will import 78.93 million tons of LNG.
LNG as an environmentally friendly energy source can be used for several things. For example, as a source of fuel for transportation modes, the manufacturing industry, or used directly by home industries.
In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the use of LNG as a source of transportation fuel is also considered to be more efficient than gasoline (BBM) which is currently used.
