The sea toll is one of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)’s breakthroughs which aims to connect major ports in Indonesia.
This sea highway is a concept that is carried out to support the logistics transportation process. In this way, the distribution of goods will be easier and more evenly distributed to remote areas.
Reported from the Ministry of Transportation website. The sea highway is a national program that is motivated by the high price disparity between the western and eastern regions.
On November 4, 2015, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Trade held the inaugural launch event for the Implementation of Public Service Obligations for the Transportation of Goods in the Framework of the Implementation of the Sea Highway.
The idea of the sea highway arose because of the fact that economic growth concentrated on the island of Java resulted in sea transportation in Indonesia being inefficient and expensive. There is no feedback from regions with low economic growth, especially in Eastern Indonesia.
Then what is the true form of the sea highway?
It is not as imagined that the sea highway is a freeway built over the sea. But to be more precise, it is a ship-free shipping lane that connects almost all ports. So, such as information on the sailing path of the ship which is not so crowded.
The ships used to traverse this barrier-free shipping lane are special ships. The ship must have a very large capacity and volume. This is so that the transportation process can be carried out at once.
The various benefits of the sea highway include being able to reduce the price of goods in remote areas, especially eastern Indonesia. The sea toll road is also able to cut the delivery time of logistics goods to remote areas.
In addition, the sea highway is able to prosper all levels of society by increasingly fulfilling all needs. The distribution of goods becomes more even to remote areas.
Sea highways are needed by archipelagic countries like Indonesia, so that the prices of basic goods can be evenly distributed. Because the value of an item will be expensive if the distribution process takes a long time and the obstacles are not easy. With the sea toll road, the prices of basic commodities can be gradually leveled.
