HUMI’s Maritime Ecosystem: Port Services

PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional – Port Services

PT Humpuss Maritim Internasional (HUMI) plays an important role in supporting the business activities carried out by PT Humpuss Intermoda Transportasi Tbk (HITS) in the integrated maritime services cluster. Among these maritime services, there is a port service segment which is run by a subsidiary of HUMI, namely PT Humpuss Transportasi Curah (HTC), which was established in 2004.

HTC provides dry bulk cargo transportation services or dry bulk using barges. Transportation services on coal became one of HTC’s main business lines at that time. However, since 2009, this service has disappeared from HTC’s line of services in line with government regulations regarding restrictions on the use of coal which resulted in a drop in demand.

One of the port services that is currently HTC’s main line of business is tug boats. Tugboats have a duty to guide other ships that want to dock or leave the port.

As an integrated maritime ecosystem, the human resources (HR) in HUMI’s port services are supported by another subsidiary engaged in the maritime HR management segment, namely PT MCS Internasional (MCSI). MCSI manages the requirement of maritime human resources such as crew vessels.

The maritime human resources are provided maritime training which is certified by PT ETSI Hutama Maritim, a subsidiary of HUMI which focuses on the HR development segment in the maritime sector. ETSI collaborated with Trilogy University providing a reliable marine and training centre by establishing HTMTC (Humpuss Trilogy Maritime Training Center).

“After being trained and certified according to their designation, the vessel’s crew will be distributed to ship owners who will sail according to their line of business,” said MCSI Director Johan Novitriansyah.

Furthermore, Johan explained that the crews certified through ETSI were not only assigned to sail in the Humpuss Group company, but were also distributed to other prestigious shipping companies around the world.

Until 2021, HTC owns a total of 16 actively operating fleets. The fleet consists of 4 tugboats, 4 barges and 8 other tugboats which are now being converted into a tug assist fleet. In the same year, the port services business segment contributed US$1.87 million to the company’s revenue.
